From Youth Apprentice to Full-Time Welder!
Colin began as a Youth Apprentice in the Welding pathway, completing his Youth Apprenticeship with Southport Mechanical. During his senior year, he also completed the Welding high school academy through Gateway Technical College, gaining valuable hands-on skills and experience.
Upon graduation, his hard work and dedication paid off—he was hired as a full-time welder at Southport Mechanical! 🔥⚙️

We are proud to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our AP students and teachers! 🎓
Last school year, 82% of our AP students earned a score of 3 or higher on at least one AP exam, up from 79% . Additionally, 84% of all AP exams earned a score of 3 or higher, up from 80%.
With 222 students completing 392 AP exams and 62 students earning AP Scholar designations, these results reflect the hard work, preparation, and dedication of our students and the teachers who support them.

Meet Nathan, a UGHS senior, who is gaining valuable, hands-on experience through our Youth Apprenticeship Business Administration Pathway at Horizon Retail Construction.
Nathan spends half of his school day learning on the job, working alongside Senior Project Manager Matt Busch and gaining firsthand experience in project management. This summer, Nathan and Matt spent time reviewing project materials, giving Nathan an inside look at the planning, communication, organization and problem-solving that go into successful construction projects.
Experiences like this help our students explore careers, build professional skills and discover what it takes to succeed in the workplace while they are still in high school.

🔧🔥 From the welding lab to the chicken BBQ!
Last spring, the Union Grove Lions Club reached out to our welding students for help building heavy-duty grill grates for their annual chicken BBQ fundraiser. The 2026 spring semester welding class took on the challenge and built 12 custom grill grates, each featuring more than 260 welds!
The Lions Club recently surprised us with an unexpected donation as a thank-you for the students’ work. We are incredibly grateful for their generosity and support of our students. The donation will help support our SkillsUSA students as they continue to build their skills, compete, and gain valuable hands-on experiences.
We love seeing our students put their skills to work for our community! Thank you to the Union Grove Lions Club for partnering with our welding program and for investing back into our students. ❤️🔧

Our ASCEND Transition Students started a new jobsite this week! Kurk Concrete welcomed our young adults with work shirts and some fun goodies to get them started. Students will be gaining valuable work experience by completing tasks such as clerical work, janitorial duties, and warehouse inventory in an industrial environment. We are so excited for this new opportunity and grateful to Kurk Concrete for supporting our growth toward greater independence and employment! Thank you, Kurk Inc! #broncofam
